Yo so I'm thinking about setting up the RP so that from now on the Admins will on planetary capture battles create the Battlefield unless a Planet is Fortified. Then that one side can create the battlefield how they want. I'm also thinking about having these planets be made on a Grid System and importing the dice codes to add some more realisitic/random effects to Orbital Bombardments.
The way the Defensive side will go is easy. If you have Artillery/troops or whatever you can go out and let them up around the map on a grid as you see fit. Certain elements such as camoflauge or hidden units for ambushes can be set up (I'll talk about that later if a debate for this gets going). However the true thing comes in from space.
As you know attacking and advancing on enemy locations can be hard. If you have an Orbital Bombardment, you'll need to figure out where you're bombing. However you must also take into consideration when bombarding from Orbit, shots are not always as accurate. This is where the Grid system comes in.
The grid will have a colomn of letters (a-f) and number (1-6) you can choose whatever letter you want to hit. Once you choose to bomb a target you will roll the dice. If the Dice comes up at say a three you can choose to bomb squares: 1, 2, or 3. or squares 6,5, or 4. Or you can choose to bomb on target however the maximum squares you can hit is only as high as your roll or in the colomn you suggest. However an alternate option is to instead focus all your shots onto one square and completely obliderate anything there. This I think simplifies the Orbital Bombardment problem and adds some strategy to it, making part of the fight like Battleship, but also allowing RP to commense like normal.
Also on a side note just something that poped up into my head, I can see every board so if you're fortified and you design the battlefield post the battlefield design there (including all your traps/ambushes; but please include a key so I know what they are) then we as staff will reproduce the Map only with all your ambushes and traps hidden (because the enemy wouldn't know about them) in the enemy's battleplans so they can see the battlefield. That way ambushes can be set up and what not prebattle and fear of Meta-Game will be eleminated.
