Thinking a Map based Grid system for all battles which require a large number of NPCs, this does not include personal battles between players outside of large battles between armies. Grid system will allow for a tactical deployment of soldiers across the battlefield, players can put as many soldiers logically that can fit inside the grid area per square on the map, and move them around, and even split groups of soldiers up, there is strength in numbers but also greater risk of losing greater number of soldiers by sudden high explosive attacks bunching them up.
Grid system basically means when you go into a battle you can deploy as many soldiers you like of which you have on that planet and can not buy anymore for the duration of that battle, ie no *BUY* reinforcements after the battle started. You can decide to deploy all of the forces on that planet or only a few, reinforcements can only be if a player joins a battle with perhaps their own personal body guard, which shouldn't be allowed to be more than say a single squad which should comprise of only around 10 soldiers, or if you didn't deploy all the soldiers on that planet, you can flood more in during the battle if needed. If there is a fleet which can make it from another planet and the battle last long enough for it to travel to that planet, that can also be added as reinforcements and if they have drop ships they can also drop them at any unprotected zone of the map *ie out of range of all enemy weapons on the map* now if anti air weapons on a faction exist on the map and they have them placed well enough to cover their positions or areas behind the front, then no drop ships can land behind your enemy. The type of soldiers/weapons I think someone who knows more about starwars should decide how far they should be allowed to shoot on maps, or their defensive range of an anti air weapon should be.
Now players who are in a massive battle are also forced to move around on the grid map, which leaves them valnurable to attacks from NPC based heavy weapons like tanks, heavy repeaters, forms of artillery and such. HOwever when a player is leading NPC soldiers that group on the grid is dramatically more effective than say an unlead group of NPCs, a jedi or force users with a light saber can automatically protect a set number of soldiers from attack every time their units is attacked by reflecting blaster bolts, say if you have 30+ soldiers with that Jedi, every time they are attacked by NPCs with just blasters around 5 soldiers are indistructable in that unit from blaster fire only. When two players engage eachother on the map, so a sith/jedi general leading NPCs engage eachother, it will turn into a RP style duel for example.
Bah... I'm just throwing this out there. lol
I was thinking of buying soldiers in Squads of 10, 10 squads equals a platoon, ten platoons equal a company, ten company's equals a regiments, 10 regiments equals a Brigade. Squads can be mixed troops of various types, or just all balster riflemen. Heavy weapons such a tanks can only be purchased as 1, no groups. Limit of say 4 tanks a square counting on the size of the map, if it's a small map, and the squares stand for a smaller area, the number of troops/vehicles fitting in each square will be much smaller.
Fighting inside buildings will be more role play based than the large battle maps, which extremely limited numbers of soldiers inside the building, but a basic description of the buildings layout including hallways/rooms have to be made by the FIRST people who occupy it, and it has to be a logical description, no some how magically house that was built like a fortress with perfect kill zones and such for anyone trying to enter.
